EUROPEAN SPHERE
Based on its commitment to improve the quality of life for the disabled, The Fundación ONCE follows trends in Europe closely,both in the sphere of European Institutions as well as in any forums working to defend the interest of the 38 million disabled people in Europe.
In this respect,the European Forum for the Disabled (EDF),a platform to represent and defend European disabled people, is of special importance.
The Fundación ONCE has been taking part in this forum as an associate member since February 2001. Cooperation with other European foundations to improve their identity within the European Union and their ability to cooperate with European Institutions has been channelled through the European Foundation Centre.Additionally,by means of the latter,the Foundation takes part in the European Standing Conference of Cooperatives, Mutual Societies,Associations and Foundations (CEP-CMAF). This organisation works to gain the recognition of the Social Economy as a necessary sector for economic and social cohesion in Europe.
The Foundation is represented in the CEPES and has a presence in the European Economic and Social Committee,which is the highest consultative body in the European Union for important economic and social issues.
The Fundación ONCE played an important role in the European Year for Disabled People held in 2003. It provided advice,organised and helped in the public relations of this event,which was of great importance for the disabled in Europe and Spain. |
